Zszywane wspomnienia

Między babciami i wnukami zawsze istnieje silna więź, a historie opowiadane przed snem zapisują się trwale w ludzkiej pamięci i stanowią piękne tło naszych wspomnień. Głos osoby najbliższej sercu dziecka i początek nowej podróży przez wyobraźnię tworzy najprostsze i najbardziej cenione chwile życia. Ideą projektu jest zbudowanie tego doświadczenia na nowo, aby zachować odziedziczony repertuar i uhonorować wszystkie babcie, które rozbudzały dziecięcą wyobraźnię oraz te, które nigdy nie odczuły tej przyjemności. Projekt polega na wybraniu, zwizualizowaniu i sfotografowaniu historii, a następnie utkaniu ich na płótnie, które stanie się kanwą odziedziczonych opowieści.

O warsztacie

Warsztat twórczy w ramach projektu My Grandmother’s Quilt Noury Alsoumy przeznaczony dla osób nie posługujących się językiem arabskim. Osoby uczestniczące zostaną wprowadzone w świat języka arabskiego w sposób uproszczony, a następnie poznają arabski alfabet. Celem warsztatu jest zwrócenie uwagi na kształt arabskich liter jako formy sztuki. Punktem wyjścia będą dwa słowa: حب، دفا oznaczające miłość i ciepło.
Każda osoba będzie pracować z literami na tkaninie w odniesieniu do historii opowiadanych przed snem. Indywidualne projekty staną się częścią dzieła sztuki, łączącego włókno i grafikę. Lubelski warsztat jest pierwszą odsłoną działania artystki, kolejna odbędzie się w Belinie w marcu 2023 roku.

O artystce

Noura Alsouma jest artystką i ilustratorką pochodzącą z Syrii, mieszkającą w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich. Ukończyła studia licencjackie z zakresu projektowania graficznego i multimediów na Uniwersytecie w Sharjah. Obecnie studiuje grafikę warsztatową (specjalność grafika warsztatowa) na UMCS w Lublinie. Jako artystka szuka połączeń pomiędzy Bliskim Wschodem z Europą. Obecnie przygotowuje dyplom w Instytucie Sztuk Pięknych Wydziału Artystycznego UMCS.

Organizatorem warsztatów jest Karuzela Sztuki, jest to prezentacja z cyklu działań wspierających młodą sztukę organizowana w ramach Europejskiej Stolicy Młodzieży Lublin 2023

About the Project
My Grandmother’s Quilt – Noura Alsouma

There is always a strong bond between grandmothers and grandchildren, and the stories told before bedtime are always the most beautiful and well-kept in people’s memory. This scene of the voice of the person closest to the child’s heart and the beginning of a new journey through the imagination creates life’s simplest and most cherished moments. The idea of the project is to build this experience anew to preserve the inherited repertoire and honor all the grandmothers who encouraged child imagination and those who have never felt this pleasure. The project is to choose, visualize, and photograph a story and then weave it on canvas to become a canvas of inherited tales.

About the workshop

This workshop is for non-Arabic speakers. You will be introduced to the Arabic language in a simplified manner, and then the Arabic letters will be recognized. The aim of this workshop is to deal with the shapes of the Arabic letters as an art form through which each person will design a shape on the piece of cloth. by using the two Arabic words (حب، دفا) and two words mean love and warm. Each one of the
participants will create a piece of fabric then I will create the big fabric artwork using the participant’s fabrics and feeling during the workshop. This workshop is the first workshop for this project, the next one will be in Berlin. After creating the big fabrics the project aims to present the created artwork in a gallery or exhibition.

Workshop schedule

Intro about Arabic language and Arabic letters. Sketch the ideas (about the two words love and warm). Start working with the fabric + (learning how to use the needle and thread) Small exhibition.

About the artist

Noura Alsouma is an Artist & illustrator who’s based in the UAE. Graduated with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design and Multimedia from the University of Sharjah. Now doing my Master’s in Graphic Art (printmaking specialty) at UMCS Poland. As an artist between the Middle East and Europe, always try to create a way to connect the places and cultures so I create art.
